Abstract: "The new design paradigm of shape annealing is introduced. Shape annealing is a variation of the simulated annealing stochastic optimization technique. It produces optimally directed shapes within the language specified by a shape grammar. It does so by controlling the selection and application of shape rules such that superior shapes evolve as the algorithm progresses."
