A Preliminary Study of the Needs of Climate Data Users

The size of climate datasets has been rapidly expanding. As a result, climate scientists have evolving needs for data access, management, and analysis. This paper conducts a preliminary user study of four climate scientists to understand their current software development practices. We use our findings to suggest future work for designing better languages and tools for scientific computing in climate science.
