A Residue is an interdisciplinary project, partnering student fine artists with student set designers from Carnegie Mellon University. The collaborative project will consist of 6 groups, with 3 set designers and 3 fine artists in each. Students will create a repeatable activity/procedure that will generate a spatial, atmospheric, or architectural condition with a strong story component. The teams will be creating a chronicle to which a conventional clock may not apply. Work in progress will be on view starting January 27, and the project will culminate in a closing reception on February 22 from 6:00-8:00 pm. The teams will consider how their activity and the residue that it leaves could be conceptually connected, (through story and other elements) so that they enhance one another. This will reverse the traditional way that space is designed (where objects are made to house activity), and will also extend the practice of repeated action that is usually intended to result in objects.
