Abstract: "The tolerance rules used by designers to specify the allowable variation of manufactured parts are often erroneosly [sic] applied. This paper describes a reformulation of the methodology standardized by ANSI Y14.5M-1982 that guides the user toward tolerance specifications that are complete and correct with regard to the standard. The reformulation can be automated for use with Computer-Aided Design and Drafting systems."
