Despite its high reputation, Carnegie Mellon University faces many of the same problems other universities in the United States confront. A recent study of the undergraduate population finds that while alcohol consumption at the University is lower than the national average, the use of other illegal substances is about equal. An attempt is made to determine some of the reasons college students consume alcohol, and whether the results of their consumption should be of concern to Carnegie Mellon.
