I am an economist among physicians and public health people, But , since we have heard a number of physicians telling us about dollars and cost-benefit analysis, perhaps I can say some things about health . Much of what was said yesterday sounded correct. For example, Dr. Merril Eisenbud said that we have to look at costs and benefits. Dr. Vaun Newill did an excellent job on that. In the 1960s there was a naive notion that it did not cost anything to clean up the environment or perhaps that guilty people would pay the cost. Clearly, that is wrong.
