In the Company of Men explores tropes of masculinity as gender roles are subverted through experiences of love and conflict. Transversing personal and collective stories of trauma, the exhibition depicts male subjects struggling to redefine their identities as contemporary notions of traditional masculinity are transforming. While conservative social movements respond to shifting gender relations as a threat, some view these changes as an opportunity to create new narratives of manhood. Through the lens of our most intimate relationships, In the Company of Men investigates how gender frames, reinforces, and challenges power dynamics.
