Designing an efficient workflow to identify and quantify biocide effectivity on Bacteria inducing Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion

 Microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) is a significant concern in oil fields due to the acceleration of metal and alloy corrosion. This type of corrosion is caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and algae, which produce substances like acids, enzymes, and gases that degrade metal. Biocides are commonly used to mitigate MIC by attempting to eradicate bacteria from the system. There is no efficient method in assessing biocide treatment on bacteria causing MIC. Therefore, a qPCR based workflow was designed to efficiently and quickly determine the effects of biocide on specific bacteria. The assay was tested on samples provided from an industry, but the samples were poorly stored before it was handed to us therefore did not allow proper assessment. More samples will be needed to properly assess the protocol.
