Comparing Business Faculty Research Output for RPT Processes: A Use-Case for SciVal's Benchmarking Module

As the liaison librarian for the Tepper School of Business, I collaborate with Tepper’s Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research to benchmark Tepper faculty members against appropriate peers for reappointment, promotion and tenure (RPT) cases. The SciVal Benchmarking module proves invaluable in accomplishing this task. I will discuss the process, fields and metrics used within the SciVal Benchmarking module, and outputs for analysis. Additionally, I will highlight a brief example of challenges with Scopus data and remedies. A goal of this presentation is to show how individual liaison librarians can work collaboratively with Deans and other administrators within colleges, schools, and departments in using the SciVal database to bring insightful data and value to the RPT process.
