This is a catalogue of an exhibition that recognizes Carnegie Mellon’s commitment to urban design in the last two decades. In truth, however, any retrospective would be remiss to ignore the preceding thirty five years, as the School’s history of urban design is deeply intertwined with the Civil Rights era, the history of Pittsburgh’s Urban Renewal schemes, and the persona of David Lewis, distinguished professor emeritus, for whom urban design is, and always has been, a multi-disciplinary collaborative effort with a marked moral imperative.
