Design for Immigration Understanding the Immigration Process through Interactive Visual Experiences
In recent years, the immigration process has become increasingly convoluted and bewildering for many people due to frequent changes in policies and regulations. The lack of transparency and clarity in the structure of immigration information further exacerbates problems, making it difficult for international students to access and understand policies, regulations, laws, and procedures through the use of resources beyond what is available from school. As a result, they struggle to navigate processes necessary for visas, green cards, citizenship, and removal. To address these issues, it is necessary to provide clear and concise explanations of legal requirements and steps while communicating updates to policies and procedures in a timely manner, enabling students to make informed decisions regarding their applications and legal status. Design has the power to clarify complex information, reveal connections among parts of the process, and illuminate its structure. Thus, my thesis investigates how an interactive visual experience can be designed to enhance the clarity of communication in immigration application materials and help international students easily understand the information and navigate the process. Throughout this work, I strived to develop more accessible immigration processes than what currently exists, transforming immigration steps into a clear and inviting experience for everyone
