Free-form Modeling with Physical Constraint Optimization: Exploration of a Design Space
For decades, researchers are devoted to creating computer-aided design(CAD) tools that help users gain a more precise and intuitive control over the free- form virtual models. Many efforts have been done in the industry and aca- demics to integrate physical simulation methods with various existing CAD systems to open new possibilities of creation to the users. Amongst these methods, constraint-based simulation is gaining importance in recent years because it is robust and fast and easy to implement. This thesis introduces a novel design pipeline that allows the users to interfere the process of con- straint optimization which is used to be a black box to the users, thus widen- ing the scope of explorable design space of the traditional pipeline.
