Change factors were estimated as the ratio between the historical (period between 1950-2005) climate simulations of extreme rainfall and the future (period between 2044-2099) climate simulations of rainfall depths corresponding to the average recurrence interval (e.g. 2-, 5-year). These change factors were computed using the Generalized Extreme Value Distribution, which is widely used to describe rainfall extremes, however the use of other distributions might lead to different change factors. ------------------- Liability statement ------------------- The data contained in this archive is intended for preliminary assessments of changes in rainfall extremes projected by different publicly available downscaled climate projection databases. Uncertainties in Future U.S. Extreme Precipitation from Downscaled Climate Projections. Geophysical Research Letters. https://doi.org/10.1029/2019GL086797 Change factors were estimated as the ratio between the historical (period between 1950-2005) climate simulations of extreme rainfall and the future (period between 2044-2099) climate simulations of rainfall depths corresponding to the average recurrence interval (e.g. 2-, 5-year) at each grid cell center. For computing the rainfall depth, a GEV distribution was used, and to characterize the uncertainty in the fit, 95% confidence intervals (upper and lower, in each filename) were also estimated for the parameters, and they were subsequently used to calculate uncertainty bounds around the change factors. Each dataset is a collection of downscaled global climate model or general circulation model (GCM). The set of downscaled GCMs is not the same for all, for more information, please read the Supplemental Information of the article associated to this dataset. For some members of each dataset, the chosen method to estimate the GEV parameters (Generalized Maximum Likelihood (GML)) did not converge and a different method (L-moments) was used instead to compute the parameters.
